Fishery-induced selection for slow somatic growth in European eel
2012
International audience; Both theoretical and experimental studies have shown that fishing mortality can induce adaptive responses in body growth rates of fishes in the opposite direction of natural selection. We compared body growth rates in European eel (Anguilla anguilla) from three Mediterranean stocks subject to different fishing pressure. Results are consistent with the hypotheses that i) fast-growing individuals are more likely to survive until sexual maturity than slow-growing ones under natural conditions (no fishing) and ii) fishing can select for slow-growing individuals by removing fast-growing ones. Although the possibility of human-induced evolution seems remote for a panmictic…
Structural study of α-Bi2O3 under pressure
2013
An experimental and theoretical study of the structural properties of monoclinic bismuth oxide (alpha-(BiO3)-O-2) under high pressures is here reported. Both synthetic and mineral bismite powder samples have been compressed up to 45 GPa and their equations of state have been determined with angle-dispersive x-ray diffraction measurements. Experimental results have been also compared with theoretical calculations which suggest the possibility of several phase transitions below 10 GPa. However, experiments reveal only a pressure-induced amorphization between 15 and 25 GPa, depending on sample quality and deviatoric stresses. The amorphous phase has been followed up to 45 GPa and its nature di…

Hydrogen bonding and proton transfer involving the trihydride complexes Cp*M(dppe)H 3 (M = Mo, W) and fluorinated alcohols: the competitive role of t…
2003
International audience; The protonation of complexes Cp*M(dppe)H3 (dppe is ethylenebis(diphenylphosphine), M = Mo (1), W (2)) by a variety of fluorinated alcohols of different acid strength (FCH2CH2OH, CF3CH2OH, (CF3)2CHOH, and (CF3)3COH) was investigated experimentally by the variable temperature spectroscopic methods (IR, NMR) and stopped-flow technique (UV-Vis). The structures of the hydrogen-bonded and proton transfer products were studied by DFT calculations. In agreement with the calculation results, the IR data suggest that the initial hydrogen bond is established with a hydride site for complex 1 and with the metal site for complex 2. However, no intermediate dihydrogen complex foun…
Evolution and future of health psychology
2014
This paper addresses the development of new plans of integration, with the aim of undertaking a critical review of the present status of health psychology. We emphasize that health psychology has overcome its growing stage when the risk of stagnation and a consequent loss of relevance and social projection existed. During its period of professionalization there was a spreading and proliferation of approaches due more to external reasons than to reflection within the field. Today the central issue, in many countries relates to the integration of health policies through collective and global actions. Health psychology professionals should move away from the traditional academic and scientific…
STUDIO DI UN AMMORTIZZATORE ELETTROMAGNETICO A RECUPERO DI ENERGIA
2013
The Role of Education in Promoting Social Innovation Processes in the Society
2015
The purpose of the paper is to clarify the role of education in promoting social innovation processes in the society based on the main findings of the theoretical study conducted from October 2014 to January 2015 within the project “Involvement of the Society in Social Innovation for Providing Sustainable Development of Latvia” supported by the National Research Program 5.2. EKOSOC-LV. The paper provides the analysis of causal interaction between social innovation and education, as well as two conceptual models which disclose the relationship between soc…
IR fingerprints of U(VI) nitrate monoamides complexes: a joint experimental and theoretical study.
2010
Infrared spectra of 0.5 mol·L-1 uranium(VI) nitrate monoamide complexes in toluene have been recorded and compared with infrared spectra calculated by DFT. The investigated monoamides were N,N- dimethylformamide (DMF), N,N-dibutylformamide (DBF), and N,N- dicyclohexylformamide (DcHF). The validity of DFT calculations for describing uranium nitrate monoamide complexes has been confirmed as a fair agreement between experimental and calculated spectra was obtained. Furthermore, a topological analysis of the electron density has been carried out to characterize monoamide-uranium interactions. From this work, it appears that the increase of stability of uranylmonoamide complexes may be directly …
Analytical design of nonlinear optical loop mirrors for fiber-optic communication systems
2006
International audience; We propose an easy and efficient method for analytically designing nonlinear optical loop mirrors (NOLMs) for fiber-optic communication systems. This analytical design is based on a Taylor series expansion of the transfer function of the NOLM, from which highly stable dynamical regimes can be readily obtained for any desired pulse parameters. We present numerical simulations showing dramatically improved performances in a 160 Gb/s transmission system that incorporates the NOLMs designed analytically.
